Universal CityWalk

In the case of Universal Parks & Resorts, the term “Universal CityWalk” refers to the entertainment and shopping districts located adjacent to the company’s theme parks. CityWalk began as an expansion of Universal’s original park, Universal Studios Hollywood, and now serves as an entrance plaza to the theme parks, connecting the parking lots to the theme parks. Besides the Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, CityWalk, located in the Universal Studios Japan theme park in Osaka, Japan, and the Universal Beijing Resort in Beijing, China. Although CityWalk Hollywood and CityWalk Orlando share some tenants, the architectural styles of the two malls are considerably different from one another. In contrast to CityWalk Hollywood, which features a classic modern blend of Hollywood elements, CityWalk Orlando is virtually purely modern in look.

The Universal CityWalk in Orlando, which debuted in 1999 as part of the development that transformed Universal Studios Florida into the current Universal Orlando Resort, was one of the first attractions to open in the United States. It was constructed on top of the site of the previous Universal Studios parking lot and main entrance. Guests arriving at the resort park in one of the two-story parking garages and then go over Universal Boulevard via covered moving walkways to CityWalk. From there, travelers can choose between two theme parks: Universal Studios Florida and Universal’s Islands of Adventure. Both parks are located in Orlando, Florida.

There are several good eating options in the area, including the Hard Rock Cafe Orlando, which is the second Hard Rock Cafe to be erected on Universal property. This was the first Hard Rock Café built in the area, surrounding the Psycho house, the Bates Motel, the E.T. Adventure, and Fievel’s Playland. Even though the initial café was considered the largest in the franchise, the firm closed the restaurant to relaunch a larger location next to Hard Rock Live in the CityWalk sector. The former Hard Rock Café building was demolished in October 2011 to make way for new construction.
